Custom Metal Fabrication Since 1978

Precision Machine Fabrication began in 1978 when two Raleigh city firefighters started taking on fabrication jobs during their off-days, working out of a rented 1,000 square foot space. More than 45 years later, that two-person operation has grown into a 100,000 square foot fabrication campus employing around 50 people in Raleigh, NC.

We have expanded steadily to meet the changing needs of our customers, but the approach that started the company has not changed: personal service, close attention to detail, and consistent quality on every job. That combination is what brings new customers to PMF and keeps existing ones coming back for production work built to their specifications.

1978

Founded: Floyd Kelly and Gene Richardson, both Raleigh city firefighters, founded the company and worked fabrication jobs on their days off out of a rented 1,000 square foot storage space.

1980

First building: The original 6,000 square foot building was completed at 1100 N. New Hope Rd. in Raleigh, still PMF’s home today.

1982

Shipping and warehouse space: An additional 6,000 square feet was added for a dedicated shipping and receiving department and warehouse.

1984

Major manufacturing expansion: 12,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 6,000 square feet of office space were added, roughly tripling the facility.

1989

In-house paint shop: A 4,000 square foot paint facility brought powder coating in-house, letting PMF finish parts without outsourcing.

1996

Warehouse for stocking programs: A 20,000 square foot warehouse addition allowed PMF to support customer stocking and just-in-time delivery programs.

1999

Warehouse expansion: Warehouse capacity grew to 60,000 square feet to keep pace with production and inventory demand.

Present Day

A 100,000 square foot campus: PMF now operates a 100,000 square foot manufacturing and warehouse campus, serving OEMs and manufacturers across North Carolina and beyond.
